Why BAJES Matters in Amsterdam
The opening of BAJES in the former Bijlmerbajes is an exciting addition to Amsterdam's cultural scene. In a building once known for its strict closure, art and expression now find their space. This is a unique opportunity to experience a place that breathes history while offering a glimpse into the future. The transformation of this prison into a cultural incubator reflects Amsterdam's dynamics, where creativity and renewal go hand in hand.
What to Expect
From October 21 to 25, 2026, BAJES will be the home of a variety of events during the Amsterdam Dance Event. This new cultural center, located at H.J.E. Wenckebachweg 48, features three spaces: Centrale Keuken (Block C), Expeditie (Block E), and Ketel (Block K). Here, internationally renowned DJs will perform alongside emerging artists showcasing their talents. The aim is to bring together a diversity of genres and audiences. The halls are spacious enough for large events but also intimate enough for concerts, creating a unique vibe.
Practical Tips
Plan your visit wisely. BAJES is a place you won't want to miss. With a capacity of 2900 visitors, it's best to arrive early. Combine your visit with a stroll through the developing Bajeskwartier, which is fascinating to witness. Don't forget that the full program for the Amsterdam Dance Event will be announced in early October, so keep an eye on the website.
