Amsterdam's first coffeeshop, Mellow Yellow, opened in 1972 because Wernard Bruining wanted to keep cannabis away from hard-drug dealers, not because the city wanted a tourist brand. The walk follows that experiment: the backdoor paradox, The Bulldog from a 1975 basement to a hotel chain, Bedrocan's pharmacy cannabis since 2003, and the fact that most Dutch adults do not use it. Tourism now brings about €400 million a year, and 90 percent of coffeeshop customers are visitors. Thirteen stops, with quizzes along the way.
