Secrets of Amsterdam North begins on the IJpromonade, on the water's edge across from the old centre, and works as a self-guided walking tour. From there the route heads into the streets behind the waterfront and past the brick warehouse Pakhuis Insulinde. Each stop comes with a question that makes you look at it properly.
The game is for friends, couples, families and colleagues who like walking with something to solve. One ticket covers a team of one to four people sharing a single phone, so larger groups split into teams and buy a ticket for each. Solo play works as well. There is no guide and no fixed start time, and since Amsterdam North is quieter than the centre you can take your time between tasks.

The tasks mix riddles with observation questions and photo assignments that only work in the right place. You read facades, dike houses, signs and the shape of the old waterfront, and the game supplies facts and stories about the shipyards, the harbour work and the villages that were swallowed up as Amsterdam North grew.
With several teams out at the same time the walk becomes a contest: answers score points and the leaderboard shows the standings. Companies use it for team outings and it suits a family afternoon just as well. You can break off for a coffee and continue later, ending back beside the water in Amsterdam North.
